Centennial | BMO Centre Commission
My fondest memories of the ‘Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth’ are the sights and sounds of the midway. The bright neon lights, the smell of mini doughnuts, the ‘ding-ding-ding’ of the games and the feeling of awe when you see someone walk by with a teddy bear bigger than you. Watching the fireworks feels like a magical end to a day of special moments. This piece was imagined by interpreting temperature data from July 2012 - Stampede’s Centennial. Configured to emulate several large bursts of fireworks, hopefully sparking joy and memories of the midway. -------- This piece was commissioned for the Calgary Stampede as part of the corporate art collection in the newly renovated BMO Centre. The Calgary Stampede has made one of the largest private investments in the art of living Alberta artists in Canada. Just over $800,000 in commissioned and purchased artworks now live in the new BMO Centre, located at Stampede Park in Calgary. The collection, which took roughly 20 months to assemble, features 67 artists from southern Alberta.
