Climate Camouflage
Data can be disguised, concealed, skewed and visualized to tell any story.
2023 - present
Information is everywhere and available instantly, but that doesn’t make it credible. We can all be steered sideways by the algorithm, AI, or corporate agendas, but can we tell real from fake and how do our own biases factor into our perceptions?
These mixed-media artworks showcase that any data can be manipulated, and we should beware of how the original message can be disguised. I use weather data and rework it by reimagining it in a water-like style, scaling, layering, and recolouring it to create pleasant flowing, organic camouflage-like configurations to remind us to explore for our answers.
Much of my work is focused on the environment (and human impact) and I layer this message further into the work with materials that allow light transference and interaction with its space. A brightly lit room can create additional shadows or a coloured wall can shift the tones due to translucency and reflective elements. Also, hand-crushed glass (often recycled bottles and picture frame glass) is added as a layer to showcase human excess in our everyday lives.
